My new friend
It's so exciting to watch Remley as she continues to learn to read, write, spell and think for her own! As I was going through her papers from this week, I couldn't help but smile at this one about her new friend Emma. My favorite part was that my new friends favorite food is "Makrone and She's"
Back to School Bash!
Last weekend, I collaborated with a fellow party planning mom, and we hosted the first annual Headquarters Island Back to School Bash. The party was held in the lot next door to us and overflowed into our garage. Courtney West and I had so much fun planning and decorating for it, and hope to make it an annual tradition! We went for a "field day" type theme, with games like tug of war and sack races as well as organized a kickball and soccer games. Of course, there was face painting, a jump castle for the little ones and lots else to do like hula hooops, basketball, chalk, bubbles etc. Oh and pizza and popsicles of course! A good time was had by all and we hope all the kids of HQ have a great school year! Check out the video below for more pictures.

First Day of School!
Wow! What a summer! Between our travels to Orlando, Myrtle Beach, Lake Norman and the mountains, visits from friends, and countless trips to the beach, pool, and just playing all day with neighbors and friends, we have had one heck of a summer. I was "off" and David works from home, so there was a lot of togetherness, but we made it and had fun doing it.
Today, my little boy started KINDERGARTEN and his sister entered FIRST GRADE! It is so hard to believe how quickly the years have flown by (though I admit, some days are LONG).
Rhett and Remley were both very excited for their first day, which made me happy as well. Remley got her own desk, next to her friend from kindergarten, Emily Woodward and Rhett was happy to find friends Jack Boyle and Elle VandeWeil from his pre-K. Here's hoping for a great school year!

Tent-up Frustration
Fellow mothers of crawlers... Feeling frustrated? Babies in constant motion, constant dangers, outlets and sharp corners, stairs, pulling things down, choking hazards galore... Erect a tent in your living room where you can safely contain your baby - at least long enough to brush your teeth!

The Bee Cause believes it is
important for people, and especially our youth, to understand the vital role of the honey bee, and how protecting them is of utmost importance. Honeybees are truly amazing creatures to watch, and an observation hive allows students to see day-to-day activities within the hive without disrupting the bees.Saturday, August 17, 2013
The last Saturday of summer...
So I had to blog about this day so I would have a record of it. It is the last Saturday of official summer. I woke up on.my.own and was shocked to see to clock read 7:30am. Somehow, All.Three.Kids were asleep! And yes Vera, I am mainly talking to you!! Small miracles! And now... She's up!

The Amazing Island Race
This was one heck of a weekend! We started off with a fun night downtown (can't tell you how long it's been since we have done that!). We went to a very hip place called Republic and had a fun time celebrating Jen's birthday.
Saturday we had a dock party at The Pointe with friends the Floyds, theThomas, and a few other families. The kids went tubing on the river for the first time and loved it!
Sunday was race day! A local organization The Point organizes an amazing island adventure race, which is an adventure game where teams decipher clever clues and complete fun mental and physical challenges while exploring the Lowcountry in a fun way.

Each team of four is required to have a team name and theme and can win spirit points. We joined forces with friends Melissa and Jeff VandeWeil and were team Booty Snatchers. The kids were kind enough to share some of their pirate stuff with us!
The race started at the marina and the first challenge was to fill up a milk jug using only a soda can with a hole in it, attached to the jug. Teams of two took turns and when complete, we were given our next set of clues. We had to run and count all the posts on the dock, measure the circumference of the concrete piers holding up the bridge using only a short piece of ribbon, find numbers and complete a scavenger hunt there. Oh, and spin around in a circle 10 times and run around a tree. Sounds easy, right?
We were then given our next clue which we had to decipher to figure out where the location was. Since it was a play on words using the great lakes, we easily determined we should head to Trophy Lake. Here, we had a balloon challenge and a few other obstacles to to conquer before we received our next clue which took us to a salon in West Ashley.. Anne Bonney, a fellow pirate! Here, one of our team members had to have their nose waxed! David took one for the team! He screamed, I must admit.
Our next clue led us to The Island School were we performed tricks with Oreo's and passed a science test with flying colors!
We then had to race to empty out a salt shaker, figure out what year the foundation was started and locate a penny with that year.
A few other stops and challenges awaited us, including flip cup contest, drinking hot sauce and then running....far.. with a parrot on my shoulder on a 110 degree heat index day - From Bohicket to Fresh Fields to get out next clue- where we hula hooped and solved Suduko puzzles before running back to solve the final clue of deciphering a message written with nautical flags.
I am pleased to report that out of approximately 150 people, we came in 2nd. And let the record show, we were literally one minute behind the winning team (3rd did not come in til about 20 minutes after us). AND the salon did not wax the winning team (communication problem) AND they used bikes to get to the last clue when we RAN. I think we all know the truth here. Anyway, it was a super fun time and I can not wait to do it again next year and WIN IT. Oh, and help raise money for a wonderful charity!
