I am sad to say that what started out as a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, did not end as such. However, it's started good with a trip to America's only tea plantation on a field trip with Remley's class. We had a tour, tasted free tea, and enjoyed the scenic grounds.
Saturday we got to go back to the same place, only this time, it was for the First Flush Festival. They had a special kids area with games and music and it was a good time for all. Mark took the kids home so we could enjoy a later night dancing in the tea leaves to the Avett Brothers.
Sadly, when I came home early Sunday morning, Truman was in bad shape. He had a high fever and we had to rush him to the ER vet. They made him comfortable and ran tests, but the poor guy was just so tired and his liver was failing. Monday, he tip toed down the hospital hall to where we were waiting and he picked up his toy and laid up his bed one final time while wagging his tail. Then, he let us know it was time. I can not tell you how much he and I have been through the (almost) last 13 years. Everyone knew what an exceptional pet he was, patient and friendly, sweet natured and obedient. We have a big empty spot in our hearts and our home. I still expect to hear him, panting, or top toeing down the hall, and certainly, still expect to see his sweet face when I walk in the door. He will never be forgotten. Love you, Truman!!
